Ira B. Fox, MD, DABPM, FIPP, ABIPP founded Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants in June 1996. He has spent more than 30 years treating patients with acute and chronic pain. Dr. Fox did his residency in anesthesiology and pain in New Jersey where he was chief resident.
Dr. Fox maintains five board certifications: American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians (ABIPP); World Institute of Pain (WIP) – Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP); American Board of Pain Medicine (DABPM); and the American Board of Anesthesiology with added certification in Pain Management. Dr. Fox serves as an examiner for the FIPP Board Certification and ABIPP Interventional Practical Examination.
Dr. Fox is chairman of the World Institute of Pain Committee on Project Development. He has also been chairman of the Advisory Board, honorary treasurer, and is on the executive board since 2011. Dr. Fox has served as a trustee for the World Institute of Pain Foundation. He is the president of the World Society of Pain Clinicians and a lifetime member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. Dr. Fox holds the distinction of being the Inaugural Executive Examiner at the WIP & American Academy of Pain Medicine Ultrasonography (AAPMU) 1st Annual WAPMU International Congress.
He was elected “America’s Top Physician” by the Pain Management Consumers’ Research Council of America, and is listed as a Top Doctor in Broward County by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. every year for the past 10 years. Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants won the South Florida Business Journal Award for Excellence in Health Care in 2008. Dr. Fox has been published extensively. Cuneyt Ozaktay, MD
Dr. Ozaktay, Senior Pain Care Specialist, joined Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants in July 2008. He attended medical school at University of Istanbul, Cerrahpasa Medical School. Dr. Ozaktay received his degree in anesthesiology at Wayne State University, Detroit Medical School in Michigan and completed a fellowship in pain management at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He specializes in implantable pain pumps and spinal stimulation.
Dr. Ozaktay was named Pain Awareness Ambassador this year. He has been honored by the Tuck School of Business Administration for the “Medical Care and The Corporation Course” and for being a lecturer at the Dartmouth Medical School Pain Management Education Day for his course on “Low Back Pain, Translational Research, Animals to Humans or vice versa.”
Dr. Ozaktay is a member of numerous organizations including the American Pain Society, American Academy of Pain Medicine and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He has done extensive research on pain management been published in several orthopedic and neuroscience medical journals. Dr. Ozaktay is a noted lecturer, and has held various teaching appointments throughout his career.
Jay E. Lasner, M.D., DABPM, FIPP, ABIPP
Dr. Lasner co-founded Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants in June 1996. He received his medical education at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson. He was a Fellow in Pain Management at both the Roswell Park Cancer Institute at the State University of New York at Buffalo and the Pain Control Center at Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In addition, Dr. Lasner was a Naval Flight Surgeon for the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida.
Dr. Lasner maintains the following board certifications: World Institute of Pain; American Board of Pain Medicine; and the American Board of Anesthesiology with added certification in Pain Management.
Dr. Lasner is a member of the American Pain Society, the International Association for the Study of Pain, the International Spinal Injection Society, the North American Spine Society, the Southern Pain Society, the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the Florida Medical Association, the Broward County Medical Association and is a Life Member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
He was elected to “Best Physicians in the USA” in 2003, 2004 & 2005 by the Consumer Research Council. Dr. Lasner sits on several local hospital committees and advisory panels, and is frequently asked to speak on various pain medicine topics.
Dr. Parris is a pain specialist who has been treating patients at Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants since September 2003. He now serves as our Director of Clinical Research. He most recently accepted the position as Professor of Anesthesia and Chief of the Pain Programs at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.
Dr. Parris attended medical school at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica and completed his residency in anesthesiology as the Chief Resident at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dr. Parris was a founding member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine. He was also a founding member and served as President of the American College of Pain Medicine, the American Board of Pain Medicine and the Tennessee Pain Society. Most notably, Dr. Parris served as President of the World Society of Pain Clinicians, developing pain clinics in Africa, Latin American, the Caribbean, the Far East and Eastern Europe. He founded the Vanderbilt Pain Control Center and served as their Medical Director for fifteen years.
Dr. Parris received the Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG) for his service and accomplishments in the field of Pain Medicine from the Queen of England. In addition to lecturing extensively, he has published three books and written well over a hundred scientific articles.
Javier Vilasuso, MD
Dr. Vilasuso, a fellowship-trained interventional pain medicine physician, joined Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants (APCC) in August 2015. He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine. He attended the University of South Florida where he completed his fellowship training in pain management and residency in anesthesiology.
Prior to joining APCC, Dr. Vilasuso established his own medical practice called Miami Pain Specialists, where he treated chronic pain patients with a variety of interventional procedures. He was also with Doctors Hospital at Baptist Health South Florida in Coral Gables overseeing all of the hospital’s pain consults.
Dr. Vilasuso has extensive training and experience treating both benign and malignant pain syndromes, which comes from his time at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. His special training includes the Vertos Medical mild® procedure.
Dr. Vilasuso is a member of the American Board of Anesthesiology, the American Society of Regional Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He has contributed to numerous conferences and case studies with regard to techniques used in the treatment of chronic pain patients.
In 2013, he was honored by the International Association of Anesthesiologists and recognized in its renowned publication called The Leading Physicians of the World.
Joseph J. Alshon, DO
Joseph J. Alshon, DO, FAAPM&R, FAOCRM, DABPM joined Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants (APCC) in October of 2015 as an interventional pain management physiatrist. He has been providing pain management and rehabilitative services in Palm Beach County for more than 25 years. In his work with patients, Dr. Alshon diligently seeks to treat the cause of pain as well as provide effective symptom management. He applies his rehabilitation, osteopathic and functional medicine training to provide a holistic approach to pain management, healing and wellness; assessing numerous aspects of the body to offer the most beneficial protocols to control pain, improve quality of life and optimize function.
Dr. Alshon brings significant experience to his new position at APCC. He was the medical director for Pinecrest’s Multidisciplinary Pain Management Program for more than 10 years. He also managed several multidisciplinary outpatient pain management doctors’ offices and was the medical director of a pain management office in Deerfield Beach.
Dr. Alshon earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at Nova Southeastern University, previously called Southeast Medical Center, in North Miami Beach. Dr. Alshon completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Temple University/MossRehab in Philadelphia.
He has held a wide array of leadership positions including Chief of Staff at Pinecrest Rehabilitation Hospital in Delray Beach for two separate tenures, as well a governing board member for four years. He is board certified by numerous professional organizations including the American Board of Pain Medicine, subspecialty pain certification as well as PM&R certification by the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Osteopathic Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
Dr. Alshon is a frequent lecturer, speaker and consultant. He was the developer and moderator of a multidimensional faith-based pain support group for many years. He is licensed in both Florida and Pennsylvania.
Eduardo H. Marti, M.D.
Dr. Marti is a pain specialist who joined Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants in September 2001 as a staff anesthesiologist. He attended medical school at the Universidad Complutense De Madrid in Madrid, Spain, and completed his residency in anesthesiology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida.
Dr. Marti has been practicing anesthesiology since 1974, and has worked for Margate General Hospital, University Hospital and Plantation General Hospital before joining Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants.
Ramesh Sogal, M.D.
Dr. Sogal joined Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants in September 2003 as a staff anesthesiologist. He attended medical school at Karnatak University in India and completed his residency in anesthesiology at Grant Medical College in Bombay, India and Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Dr. Sogal has been practicing anesthesiology since 1979, where he worked for the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio until 2002, the Rand Eye Institute from 2002 before joining Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants. He maintains the following board certification: American Board of Anesthesiology.
Charles Robert Pitluck, DO
Dr. Charles Pitluck, a board certified anesthesiologist, joined Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants (APCC) in December of 2010. He earned his medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Pitluck fulfilled his anesthesiology residency at University of Miami Jackson Memorial Medical Center and completed his CA3 pain fellowship at Jackson Pain Relief Center in Miami. His training also included a transitional internship at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Before coming to APCC, Dr. Pitluck spent 14 years at Anesthesia Associates of Broward County in its outpatient surgical services center. He was also a staff anesthesiologist at several hospitals including Edward White Hospital in Tampa, Clearwater Community Hospital and Florida Hospital Zephyrhills, originally named East Pasco Medical Center, in Pasco County, Fla.
He holds a number of important certifications and honors including: Consultant in Anesthesiology; Diplomate of National Board of Examiners; ACLS Certification; Army Commendation Medal for Outstanding Performance from the U.S. Army Medical Corp. and Expert Field Medical Badge Course.
Dr. Pitluck has a long and distinguished military career where he held various positions including clinical instructor for the physicians’ assistant training program, quality assurance director and chief medical officer for the ambulatory care clinic and general medical officer of the department of family practice for the Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, N.C.
Oksana Fabri, MD joined Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants (APCC) in April of 2015 as an anesthesiologist. She specializes in providing anesthesia in diverse clinical situations and managing critical care patients.
Dr. Fabri earned her medical degree from Danylo Halytsky Lviv State Medical University in Ukraine. She completed her residency in anesthesiology at Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital in Ukraine and at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Prior to joining APCC, Dr. Fabri was an anesthesiologist with Sheridan Healthcare in Sunrise, Fla. She has been in practice for more than 30 years.
Dr. Fabri is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and has received her certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.
Ronaldo Schkolnik, MD joined Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants (APCC) in December of 2011 as an anesthesiologist. He completed his pediatric fellowship at The Children’s National hospital in Washington, DC and his anesthesiology residency at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Schkolnik has been in practice for more than 50 years.
His professional affiliations include the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Florida Medical Association. One of Dr. Schkolnik’s biggest accomplishments was when he wrote post-operative C-section pain management protocol for implementation at Inova Alexandria Hospital in Virginia.
He received his MD degree from the University of Buenos Aires Medical School and earned his BS degree from La Escuela Nacional de Náutica Manuel Belgrano.
Gokul Shanbhag, MD joined Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants (APCC) in August of 2013 as an anesthesiologist. He received his medical degree from Seth G.S. Medical College in India.
He was previously a staff anesthesiologist at William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan. He has been in practice for more than 40 years.
Dr. Shanbhag is certified by the American College of Anesthesiologists and the American Board of Anesthesiologists. Additionally, he is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Medical Society.
Angela Pierre, MD
Angela Pierre, MD joined Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants (APCC) in August of 2015 as an anesthesiologist. Her medical specialization is in anesthesiology – pain medicine.
Dr. Pierre earned her medical degree from the Medical University of the Americas in the West Indies. She completed her residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and her pain medicine fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York.
Prior to joining APCC, Dr. Pierre was a general anesthesiologist with Forest Hills Hospital – North Shore- LIJ Health System in New York.
Dr. Pierre is board certified in both anesthesiology and pain medicine. She also has certification in the areas of basic life support and advanced cardiac life support. Dr. Pierre is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine.
Marie-Ange Angus, CRNA
Marie-Ange joined Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants in December 2003 as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She attended school at the Harlem School of Anesthesia in New York, NY. In addition to being a CRNA, Ms. Angus earned her RN degree and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) degree.
David Lawrence, PA-C
Prior to joining APCC, David Lawrence was a physician assistant with Care Health Center II, focusing on internal medicine. He is a member of the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants and holds certifications from several medical organizations, including the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and Advanced Cardiac Life Support & Basic Cardiac Life Support. He is also a State of Florida Licensed Physician Assistant and Respiratory Therapist. Additionally, he has instructed students in all areas of critical care and pediatrics through the Clinical Instructor Respiratory Therapy Program at Broward Community College.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in Physician Assistant Studies from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Janice Lehman, ARNP BC
Janice joined APCC in February 2013. She provides an essential starting point for patients’ interventional pain management treatment.
Tekeema Dixon, CRNA
Tekeema Dixon, CRNA joined Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants (APCC) in June of 2013. She earned her MS degree from the University of Miami and received her BS degree from Florida Atlantic University.
Prior to joining APCC, she was a nurse anesthetist at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale where she conducted preoperative assessments of patients undergoing various surgical procedures, including ordering of tests and lab work.
She is certified in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support. Her professional affiliations include American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, the American Nurse Association and the Minority Nurse Association.
Additionally, she is involved with the American Red Cross Broward County Chapter, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County and is a school volunteer nurse at The Charter Schools of Excellence™ – Fort Lauderdale.
Giovanna De Oliveira, ARNP
Giovanna De Oliveira, ARNP is an adult nurse practitioner who works with the physicians at Anesthesia Pain Care Consultants (APCC). She focuses on initial consultations and follow-up visits to assess the patients regarding their options for interventional pain management. She joined APCC in January of 2006.
De Oliveira worked as an adult nurse practitioner at Serendipity Medical Services in Texas, working with a psychiatric team as a consultant seeing predominantly geriatric patients. She also worked as an RN in Michigan, at Acclaimed Home Care, working with traumatic brain and spinal cord injury patients.
De Oliveira earned both her BSN and MSN degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit. She holds certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and earned her nurse practitioner license as well as her registered nurse license from the State of Florida.
She remains current with her Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Additionally, she is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the South Florida Council of Advanced Practice Nurses, and the National Hispanic Nurses Association, among her many memberships.
